How online counselling works across Staffordshire.
Sessions run by secure video or phone. A link arrives beforehand and the session runs the same fifty minutes it would in a room.
Staffordshire is a large county with a lot of ground between its towns, which makes travelling to an appointment a bigger commitment here than in a city. Online takes that out of the equation.
It also means a session does not have to be abandoned because of a late finish or a long drive home. You join from wherever you are, provided it is private.

What you need for an online session.
A private room and any device with a microphone. The joining link is emailed in advance - no app, no login. Sessions continue by phone if the connection gives out.
Men counselling men.
Most counsellors are women, and in a county the size of Staffordshire the few male ones are rarely near you. Plenty of men have no preference at all. If you do have one, this is a practice built for it rather than one that happens to accommodate it.
What men across Staffordshire bring to counselling.
Stress that stopped being temporary.
Pressure that was supposed to ease after a particular week or project, and did not.
Sleep and temper going together.
Poor sleep and a shorter fuse usually arrive as a pair, and each makes the other worse.
A relationship that has gone quiet.
Not conflict, necessarily. Distance, and the difficulty of naming it without making it worse.
Carrying something old.
Something from years back that has never been talked about and still shapes how you respond now.
There is no counselling room in Staffordshire, and I will not pretend there is.
The one Mettle consulting room is in Southport. Everything across Staffordshire is done remotely, and this page exists to be useful to people searching from the county rather than to imply an office in it.
If in-person work is what you want, Staffordshire has counsellors who offer it and the journey to Southport would not be worth making. Say so on the free call and I will point you toward looking locally.

Free mental health support across Staffordshire.
None of what follows costs anything or needs a referral. Some men use these alongside counselling, some instead of it, and both are reasonable.

How do I know whether online will suit me?
+
Largely by trying it. The free 15-minute call is itself a small test - if talking on a screen feels impossible then, it is unlikely to feel easy in a session, and that is worth knowing before you pay for anything.
Can I book one session rather than commit to several?
+
Yes. Single sessions are available and some men only ever want one. Blocks start at four because that is usually where the price improves, not because four is required.
What actually happens in the first session?
+
You talk, I listen, and I ask questions where they help. There is no script and nothing you have to disclose. By the end we should both have a sense of whether this is worth continuing.
Will anything be recorded?
+
No. Sessions are not recorded. I keep brief written notes, encrypted and identified by initials only, which is standard practice and covered in the written agreement.
What if I go quiet for a few weeks?
+
That happens and it is not a problem. Nothing here runs on a fixed schedule you can fall behind on. Unused sessions inside a block do expire, which is set out in the payment policy.
Counselling in other areas.
Online sessions cover the whole of the UK regardless. These are the places with a page of their own.
