South Yorkshire - Online across the county - from £35

Men's counselling
across South Yorkshire

South Yorkshire covers Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley, along with the towns of the Dearne valley between them. There is no consulting room in the county, so counselling here is online.

I work with men across South Yorkshire online by secure video or phone, weekends and evenings included subject to availability, payment upfront by bank transfer locks in the meeting date and time. Most men get started within days of the free initial call.

How online counselling works across South Yorkshire.

Sessions run by secure video or phone. A link arrives beforehand and the session lasts the same fifty minutes it would in a room.

Most of the county's counsellors sit in Sheffield, which is convenient if you live there and considerably less so from Doncaster or Barnsley on a weekday evening. Online flattens that difference.

It also means the appointment survives a late finish. Nothing about the journey home has to cost you the session.

What you need for an online session.

A private space and a phone, tablet or laptop. The joining link is emailed beforehand and there is nothing to install. If the connection struggles, the session continues on voice.

Men counselling men.

Most counsellors in this country are women. It is not a problem in itself - a lot of men work well with a female counsellor. It becomes one when a man who would rather not has nowhere obvious to go. This is a practice for men, run by a man, and that is the entire point of it.

What men across South Yorkshire bring to counselling.

Work that changed underneath you.

A restructure, a new manager, a role that is not the one you took. Unsettling in a way that is hard to justify out loud.

Irritability you can hear yourself doing.

Snapping at people who did nothing, noticing it as it happens, and doing it again the next day.

Grief that arrived late.

A death you handled at the time, surfacing months or years afterwards without warning.

Not wanting to worry anyone.

Protecting the people closest to you by telling them nothing, and then feeling further away from them.

There is no counselling room in South Yorkshire, and I will not pretend there is.

The one Mettle consulting room is in Southport, on the other side of the Pennines. Everything across South Yorkshire is done remotely, and this page exists to be useful to people searching from the county rather than to imply an office in it.

Sheffield in particular is well supplied with counsellors who can see you face to face. If that is what you want, say so on the free call and I will point you toward looking locally.

Counselling questions men in South Yorkshire ask.

Are you actually available, or is there a waiting list?

+

Available. There is no waiting list and no queue to join. The limit is diary space in any given week, which the free call establishes in a couple of minutes.

Do you offer anything for a one-off problem?

+

Yes. Single-session work exists for exactly that - one focused conversation about one thing, with no expectation of coming back. Some men use it and never need more.

How is this different from talking to a mate?

+

A mate has a stake in the answer and has to see you next week. I do not. That distance is most of what makes it possible to say the whole thing rather than the acceptable version of it.

What if I get upset?

+

Then you get upset, and nothing bad happens. It is a normal part of the work rather than a sign it is going wrong, and there is no audience.

Can I stop whenever I want?

+

Yes. Pay-as-you-go carries no commitment beyond the session you have booked. Blocks are paid up front, which is the one place stopping early has a financial consequence, set out in the payment policy.

Take the first step. No pressure. No obligation.
