How online counselling works across North Wales.
Sessions run by secure video or phone. A link arrives beforehand and the session lasts the same fifty minutes it would in a room.
The region is long and thin, and travelling from Anglesey or the Llyn to anywhere with a counsellor can take most of a day. Online removes distance from the decision entirely.
Along the border it works differently but arrives at the same place: plenty of men in Wrexham and Deeside already work or shop in Chester, and would rather their counselling had nothing to do with either side of the line.

What you need for an online session.
A private space and a phone or laptop. The link comes by email beforehand. Coverage is patchy in parts of the region, and where video will not hold the session runs on voice instead.
Men counselling men.
Most counsellors in this country are women. In North Wales the pool is smaller to start with, and a man wanting a male counsellor near him is often looking at nobody. Working online widens that considerably - though if you want to work in Welsh, a local Welsh-speaking counsellor is still the better answer.
What men across North Wales bring to counselling.
Living somewhere everyone knows you.
Small communities are a strength until you need to say something you would rather nobody repeated.
Work that took you away.
Contracts, rigs, sites and long weeks away, and the awkwardness of coming back into a house that carried on without you.
Anger with nowhere to go.
Frustration that has no obvious cause and no obvious outlet, surfacing at home rather than where it started.
Losing a sense of what you are for.
After redundancy, retirement, or the children growing up. Common, and rarely spoken about directly.
There is no counselling room in North Wales, and I will not pretend there is.
The one Mettle consulting room is in Southport, over the border and along the coast. Everything across North Wales is done remotely, and this page is here to be useful to people searching from the region rather than to suggest an office in it.
North Wales has counsellors who will see you face to face, including Welsh speakers. If either of those matters to you, say so on the free call and I will point you toward looking locally rather than talk you into the wrong fit.
Bespoke
Build your block.
Minimum 4 sessions. Pick your own mix of conversations and check-ins, tell me your availability, and lock in block pricing from £130. No fixed programme - designed around your life.
Free mental health support across North Wales.
None of the following costs anything or needs a referral. Several are Wales-wide rather than England-only, which is worth knowing if you have been given English numbers before.
Counselling questions men in North Wales ask.
Do you offer sessions in Welsh?
+
No. Sessions are in English only, and I would rather say that plainly here than let you find out on the call. If you would rather work in Welsh, that is a good reason to look for a Welsh-speaking counsellor locally, and it will make the work better rather than merely more comfortable.
Does being in Wales change anything practically?
+
Not for private counselling. NCPS registration covers the whole of the UK and the terms here are the same wherever you live. What differs is the NHS, which is run separately in Wales, so any waiting list you are on there is a different queue from an English one.
I live in Flintshire but work in Chester. Which page applies?
+
Either, and it makes no difference to what happens. There is a Chester page because people search that way, but the sessions, the price and the format are identical whichever side of the border you count yourself on.
Is there anywhere in North Wales I could be seen in person?
+
Not by me. Southport is the only room and it is a long way from most of the region. There are counsellors across North Wales who offer in-person work, and if that is what you want I would rather help you find one than have you travel.
The signal where I live is unreliable. Is that a problem?
+
Rarely a fatal one. Video needs less than people assume, and when it will not hold the session carries on by phone with nothing important lost. Worth flagging on the free call so the first session is not spent troubleshooting.
Counselling in other areas.
Online sessions cover the whole of the UK regardless. These are the places with a page of their own.
