How online counselling works across Nottinghamshire.
Sessions run by secure video or phone. A link arrives beforehand and the session lasts the same fifty minutes it would in a room.
The gap between the city and the north of the county is wide, and counsellors are not evenly spread across it. Online means where you live stops determining what is available to you.
It also means an appointment does not have to be built around a journey, which is usually what makes a weekly commitment possible rather than aspirational.

What you need for an online session.
A private space and a phone or laptop. The link comes by email ahead of the session, with no app and no account. A weak signal moves things to voice rather than ending them.
Men counselling men.
Most counsellors in this country are women. Across Nottinghamshire a man looking for a male counsellor works through a lot of profiles to find a handful. Mettle only works with men, so the filtering is already done.
What men across Nottinghamshire bring to counselling.
Money worries that will not sit still.
Not always debt. Often just the arithmetic running constantly in the background and refusing to stop.
A temper that arrives too fast.
Reacting before thinking, then spending the evening managing the consequences of it.
Fatherhood that is harder than expected.
Wanting to be present and finding you are tired, short, and absent in the ways that matter.
Something you have never told anyone.
Sometimes the whole reason for booking is that there has never been anywhere to put it.
There is no counselling room in Nottinghamshire, and I will not pretend there is.
The one Mettle consulting room is in Southport. Everything across Nottinghamshire is done remotely, and this page exists to be useful to people searching from the county rather than to imply an office in it.
If you want to be in the room with someone, Nottinghamshire has counsellors who offer that and Southport is not a journey worth making for it. Say so on the free call and I will point you toward looking locally.

None of the following costs anything or needs a referral. Some men use them alongside counselling and some instead of it, and both are sensible.
Counselling questions men in Nottinghamshire ask.
Is there an age limit?
+
The work is with adults, eighteen and over. For anyone younger, a service set up for young people will do a better job than I would.
What if I have been told I should get help but do not want to?
+
Then say that on the call. Men who arrive because somebody else thinks they should are common, and it is worth being honest about rather than pretending to a motivation you do not have.
Do you give advice?
+
Rarely, and not as the main event. Most of what is useful comes from working out what you actually think, which is slower than advice and tends to last longer.
Can sessions be weekly, or does it have to be?
+
Weekly suits most people because it keeps continuity, but fortnightly works and some men book as and when. What does not work well is long gaps with no pattern at all.
How do I know if it is working?
+
Usually something outside the room shifts first - sleeping better, reacting differently, an easier week at home. If nothing has moved after a few sessions, that is worth saying out loud rather than continuing quietly.

Online sessions cover the whole of the UK regardless. These are the places with a page of their own.
