Private practice is not the
whole picture.

Mettle exists to make good therapy accessible. That means a private practice with no waiting lists, and a commitment to reach the people who can’t get there through the usual doors.

01

Subsidised therapy

Cost shouldn’t be the reason.

A limited number of places are held each month for people who cannot access private therapy for financial reasons. The work is the same. The approach is the same. The cost is not.

These places are not advertised widely because demand outstrips supply. If cost is genuinely a barrier, reach out and say so. There’s no form to fill, no proof required. A short conversation is enough.

Who it’s for

Anyone for whom the standard private fee is genuinely out of reach. No means test. No paperwork. Your word is enough.

What it involves

The same person-centred counselling available privately. One-to-one sessions, in-person or online, on a reduced or sliding-scale fee agreed between us before we start.

Availability

Places are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. There may be a short wait. Get in touch early.

02

Career mentoring

Finding direction when no one shows you how.

I volunteer as a Professional Mentor for young adults aged 16–25 through the LFC Foundation’s Mentor Works programme. One-to-one career guidance, backed by 15 years as an agency recruiter.

We work on whatever the young person needs: finding a direction, writing applications, preparing for interviews, or just figuring out what they actually want to do. Available to any young person in the Liverpool City Region through the Foundation.

Who it’s for

Young adults aged 16–25 in the Liverpool City Region, accessed through the LFC Foundation Mentor Works programme.

What we work on

Career direction, job applications, interview prep, confidence, and figuring out what comes next. One-to-one, no agenda other than theirs.

Cost

Free

Delivered through the LFC Foundation.

How to access

Through the LFC Foundation directly. I cannot take self-referrals for this programme.

Why this matters to me.

Most men who reach out are already running on empty. A lot of them reach that point and find that private therapy isn’t a realistic option – the cost, the waiting, not knowing where to start. Good therapy only helps the people it can actually reach.

The subsidised places, the mentoring – none of it is a token gesture. It’s the other half of what Mettle is for.

The private practice funds it. That’s the model.
